My WellFound Experience

November 1, 2021

My name is Benjamin Bethell. I’m currently studying International Sales and Marketing in Copenhagen, Denmark. As an undergraduate, one of the most important experiences is doing an internship. To gain work experience and to learn how real life works outside the books is key for boosting your employability. Especially as a business student. So, when my time came to decide where to apply for an intern position, I went through different scenarios. Both in Copenhagen where I’m from, and abroad. I can only say that I’m thankful that I ended up with the opportunity to join WellFound in London for the 12 weeks on my last semester at uni. Working for an NGO is a future career goal of mine so having this experience has been amazing. And looking back on the last 3 months I realise how much I have gained from my time here.

Throughout the entire internship I have worked closely with WellFound’s CEO, Dr. Anthony Kingsley on the marketing and publicity side. I have been treated like a regular employee in the organisation and my views and inputs have been valued. During the first week, which was mostly introductions, we sat down and agreed on the objectives for my internship. And since then, I have been working on a variety of things from developing a new marketing and social media plan, to creating campaigns. Social media is today a very useful tool used by most organisations when communicating with their followers.

During the last few weeks, I have been working on this year’s BIG GIVE Christmas Challenge which will begin on November 30th. Even though my internship now is coming to an end, I’m so thrilled to be able to continue working on this project and follow it through all the way to the end.

This year every penny collected during the campaign week will go directly to rural communities in Sierra Leone. The amazing thing about the Big Give is, that all donations will be doubled at no extra cost to the donors. So, I really encourage you all to save the date now and to join us for this year’s Christmas Challenge as you have the chance to make a huge impact on many people’s lives. Looking back on the last few months I can see that my time with WellFound has allowed me to grow personally, but has also helped me to gain new skills within marketing and business administration as well as a better understanding of the NGO sector, all of which I’m certain will be very useful for my future career. So, if you are considering doing an internship somewhere I can strongly recommend WellFound as an organisation.
